Designing a playful and interactive VR bathroom experience for Vitra

Brief

Vitra, the global ceramics sanitary ware company, wanted to showcase its new line of smart bathroom solutions and tile series at the ISH Fair in Frankfurt with a highlight on technology, personalization, and playfulness. As the VR designer, I collaborated with Zenger Agency to design and build a unique VR experience for Vitra’s ISH fair visitors and customers.

Challenge

Designing an interactive VR experience to showcase Vitra’s innovative line of smart bathroom solutions

An immersive and playful VR experience

We designed a virtual bathroom using Vitra’s tiles, sanitary ware, and the new line of smart products. We designed a novel interaction design system to bring real-life interactions into the virtual world. We built the models of smart products such as the smart WC into the VR experience, where the users could interact with the products the same way they would in real life using a VR headset and controllers.

Experience Components

  • An interactive bathroom experience that is fully customizable

  • Smart appliance interaction with a two-handed interaction system

  • Tile, sanitary ware, and furniture personalization

  • Furniture and spatial interactions

  • In-app menu design and flow

  • Light and environment controls

  • The Virtual Selfie mode activated in front of the mirror

  • Virtual Selfie sharing tablet application

How the Virtual Selfie mode works
